SC Chapter Meeting - Building Automation Systems and Controls Basics

Topic: "Building Automation Systems and Controls Basics"

This presentation has been put together to provide an overview of building automation systems in 2019:
the technology, the trends, and the challenges.
Technology moves forward everywhere in a relentless, inescapable manner.  The cycle time for the
introduction and adoption of new technologies that displace current products (and services) is getting
shorter and shorter.  This has become most evident in the software industry.  Five years from now,
Microsoft most likely will not be selling or supporting the operating systems and software we use today.
Microprocessors, memory chips, and other electronic components will not be available, and the software
and communication protocols will be replaced with new technologies.
It is not much different for the BAS industry.  We will look at the changes, the components, and trends –
where will we be in 5 years?
